Twisted Wave For Mac
TwistedWave is a very easy to use audio editor. Create your own iPhone ringtones! TwistedWave supports Audio Unit and VST plug-ins. Use the Audio Units provided by Apple, or find the particular effect you wanted from the hundreds of Audio Unit or VST plugins available on the internet. TwistedWave uses the DIRAC Time Stretch/Pitch Shift technology licensed from The DSP Dimension, one of the most advanced algorithms for time-based manipulation of audio material available today.
Use the batch processing to apply the same sequence of effects to a list of files. Automatically detect silences to split a large file into smaller ones. TwistedWave works great as an audio converter. It is able to read and export sound files in many formats, including: wav, aiff, au, snd, sd2, mpg, mp2, mp3, mp4, m4r (iPhone ringtones), m4a (iTunes), m4b (audiobooks), aac, caf, flac, ogg/vorbis, wma, WavPack, Wave64. It is also possible to import the sound track from a movie in mov, avi, flv (Flash Video), wmv or mpeg format. Double clicking an effect stack to install it could sometimes fail, - The effects would not appear in the alphabetical order on High Sierra, - The markers from some WAV files would not be read by TwistedWave, - Added the ability to normalize channels independently, - Some SD2 files could fail to load, - When saving a file, the file formats now appear in alphabetical order, - Some VST effects could crash TwistedWave, - A directory named 'A file being saved by TwistedWave' could remain after saving a file to an external drive. 1.18.4 6 Sep 2017.

It was good, if not great, but suffered from stability problems and, ultimately, a lack of support. I paid £300 for it and it got dropped by TC 4 years later. BIAS Peak, the obvious alternative was well supported with a huge user base, but it was equally as expensive, and again was dropped when the company went under. So where to now? Well Sony have finally released SoundForge for Mac, but unfortunately it’s features are restricted in comparison to the PC version, and it’s expensive (there’s a pattern here!).
So what if you want an an intuitive editor, with good support and stability, that’s easy on both the eye and the wallet? I researched the options thoroughly, and I suggest you do the same. My advice here, would be to refrain from being swayed too much by the feature comparisons available on some of the websites.
They’re well out of date and you’ll find that TwistedWave now offers the vast majority of the features listed. There are suprisingly quite a few worthy contenders. I trialled Triumph by Audiofile Engineering, but found it cumbersome and very unintuitive and the keyboard shortcuts just didnt work for me. Ultimately, TwistedWave is my first choice. The developer has been supporting TwistedWave since 2007 and is expedient with appropriate updates. It’s super fast, simple to use and very reliable. It has tons of useful features, such as AU and VST support, batch processing, auto silence detection, sample rate and format conversion, High Quality DIRAC processing engine for pitch shifting/timestretching, great keyboard shortcuts, the list literally goes on.
For me, this provides an essential, audio toolbox, at bargain price. Furthermore, it works, without feeling bloated or amateurish in any way. If you’ve ever used ProTools, I dare say that TwistedWave will very quickly feel like an old familiar friend, or at least his younger brother.
