Usb Dab Tuner For Mac
I want to upgrade my hi-fi tuner (currently Denon TU-1800, no DAB) and I'm finding some difficulty locating anything much available in the line of a hi-fi separate tuner these days. I've located the only Denon item that they seem to do in the hi-fi separates range, an item called a Network Audio Player (model DNP-720AE).
The basic specs are as follows:. Digitally transmitted play function for iPhone or iPod via USB. Internet radio and network audio streaming via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

Music files stored on a network-connected device such as a PC or NAS. AirPlay Music Streaming from PC/MAC or iDevices. FLAC 96-kHz/24-bit audio format (2 channel).

Plays USB memory and USB memory players. Listen to FM / AM. Digital optical output.
Wi-Fi connectivity with WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup). Party Mode Plus There doesn't seem to be any DAB availability but I wonder if internet radio is the way to go? I have fibre optic broadband upstairs which should be powerful enough for a unit in the sitting room to receive OK (70MBps) but as I'm totally unfamiliar with internet radio, can anyone tell me if DAB stations are available this way and if so, what's the quality like? I like to listen to Classic FM (ironically on DAB) and Planet Rock (only available on DAB - not available on Freeview for some reason). The other rock music station I listen to occasionally is XFM (FM only) but it's changed so much since the days when Ricky Gervais was a daytime DJ on it, I don't tune in so often anymore. Any helpful pointers would be greatly appreciated. I can't answer your question re seperates as I have the Denon RCD-N7 hifi in the lounge which is internet enabled, but in response to internet vs DAB it doesn't have DAB but has all the internet stations from around the world are available to it, as well as streaming from my NAS, MAC and iPhone as it is Airplay enabled.
In my kitchen I have the REVO superconnect. Again it streams, has a bluetooth connection, and also internet radio. It has DAB and FM, but TBH I listen to all of the radio via the internet radio on both of my devices. The quality is excellent.
I do have a fast BB connection with unlimited downloads, so maybe if you are on a slow connection with limited downloads it may not be an option, as I understand radio etc is very data heavy. Where I live in Reading, DAB is lousy, even though the area it's said to be good. I suspect this is due to interference caused by the BBC monitoring station next to Caversham Park village, where at one time back in the 70s, things were so bad that residents received all their tv channels in B&W, and FM was almost as bad.
To get a decent FM signal where I live, I have to use a 75 ohm external arial Although I have a DAB/FM tuner, the last time I tried using DAB, all I could get was 4 stations, and those have a fair bit of background distortion. That's what people reckon, but the dishes the monitoring station use, are miles away beyond Sonning Common, so that doesn't make any sense. My guess is that where I am, right next to the canal and river Thames, whilst Caversham Park house and Caversham Park village, are on the top of the valley, it's difficult to locate suitable TV and FM transmitters. Most of the properties around here, (decades ago) have had installed a cable which feeds TV and FM signals via cable, from a dish located on top of a nearby Gasometer - which in turn (because of where it's located) might be what's actually causing the poor reception?
Click to expand.Sorry to disabuse you about radio and TV interference around Reading, but there are no transmitters at Caversham Park and the receiving station for it at Crowsley Park also does not have transmitters. Therefore they cannot produce 'inteference' as suggested. Monitoring stations need to be in a relatively quiet area for EMC/EMI (interference) and there would be no point them having any outgoing services that produce 'interference', since this would also affect the signals they are receiving. I find Classic is usually ok if I am driving and opera or lieder come on Three I really want to call it the Third Programme, since I cannot concentrate on it that well anyway in the car.
Apart from the snippet syndrome, I always want to choke the announcers on Classic. They are as bad as R2 at their worst. As for hearing, if yours really isn't too good, try a pair of semi-decent headphones, I find they do make a substantial difference now I've lost the top and most of the middle range in both lugs. And especially if listening to something via the computer.
